Falcons Mens 2009 Program Overview

Falcons Men 2009

In 2009 and beyond we are striving to have the following 4 groups/teams:

1. Honours

2. Div 1

3. Div 2 (incorporating juniors Yr 10-12)

4. Junior Development Squad. (Yr 7-10. Train once a week, invited from all schools in outer East) The group as a whole won’t play SL , but some of the older/stronger players in this squad may choose to train an extra night and play Div 2

The 2009 pre season has been designed around the following principles

  • Training hard and putting in effort
  • Being professional again (its been a few years),
  • Aiming to train harder than any other club
  • Making sure we all are enjoying the sessions
  • Making sure we all are being challenged in a good way (coaches get new activities/ideas!)
  • Sessions mainly Outdoor, however we will use an Indoor venue once a week from February.
  • 3 pre season sessions a week from Mid January to Early March. Quick 60-80 min sessions

Players must attend a minimum of 2 sessions per week. 3 is preferred (especially for those wishing to make honours!) Players who attend more sessions will dramatically increase their chances of being selected in their highest team. Seniors to help transport junior players.

  • The sessions have been spread strategically across Melbourne. This is to help the spread out nature of all our Senior players, but also to incorporate at least one session a week in our junior development corridors in the outer suburbs of Eltham and Ringwood.
  • Compulsory Pre season Camp late January in Wonthaggi (Indoor skills and fitness plus Beach fitness and recovery)
  • Pre season finishes with Warrnambool Tournament in early March. Then SL starts shortly after
  • A new training schedule for the regular season will be designed during Pre season in Feb. This will give us time for the group as a whole to design the best nights/training locations etc.
  • New uniforms (new design) might be introduced in 2009. These uniforms will be presented the session before departing for the Warrnambool Tournament. This will also double as our official team selection announcement for 2009.

Save Our Boys

The Melbourne Falcons Volleyball Club are embarking on an important new campaign in 2009…..

 (SAVE OUR BOYS!)

Unfortunately the Melbourne Falcons Men’s Volleyball program over the past 3 years has declined to a dangerous and perilous state. To be brutally honest, until some juniors came on board last year – and were supported by a loyal and staunch group of lads to enter a team in Division 1, we were basically facing extinction. The SOB campaign (yes it is sad!) hopes to turn this around and we need your support!.

In 2009 there is a group of people who are very motivated to return the Men’s program to the successful and flourishing state it was in earlier this decade. They realise if it isn’t turned around in the next 2 seasons then we will miss the next wave of juniors, have no development and when the current players stop playing….it’s all over. This is our last chance!

We have recognised that we only have 1-2 years to get the Men’s program well supported, with many teams entered in State league, strong connections with recognised schools and development occurring continually at the club. We know that this is the realistic amount of time that it will take to get a new program up and running smoothly, as well as an appropriate amount of time that individuals could commit themselves to the cause.

YOU have been recognised as a former member of the club who had an important part of our history – so we want you to be a person who can contribute in some way being an important part of our future!

To turn the men’s program around in 2 years the SOB committee believes that they will need the support of MANY ex members of the club. They are asking you to get involved again. Not forever! But consider giving up 1 or 2 seasons to get the ball rolling and the club developing players so the future is assured.

There are many things you can do to contribute:

  • Pull on the boots and play again, we want to enter 3 teams and the standard hasn’t improved, so why not!
  • Seniors help drive juniors to training.
  • Take on a school development role (most likely coach once a week after school-at a specific school)
  • Help coach in our junior development squad (inviting players from many schools to our venue once a week)
  • Coach a State League team. We also need managers for each team.
  • Join the committee – using your business/admin skills if you have them?
  • Attract sponsorship/government grants. Introduce the club to potential sponsors.
  • General setting up links for the club. Be a school liaison. Send junior players, friends, colleagues, past players to the club – help with our overall recruiting. For those living out of the big smoke, you could be a country contact – ensuring that when players from your district come to Melbourne, they go to the FALCONS!
  • Media/IT – Set up/run an interactive website that will attract and enthuse new junior players.

This Volleyball club has supported all of you at some stages in your life. It is on its knees and needs help! We are not pulling any punches, the brutal honesty is that the club needs all ex and current players to put back into it now to ensure its future. Please contact the boys on the committee contact list below to pledge your support!
