Mid-Season Social Function Ideas
The time is coming for the Falcons mid-season social event and the committee have ideas of what to do but we would like our members input.
The date of the event is undecided yet but we will try to work out a good time for everyone. The event will also be for the WAGMADBAH’s too (Wives and Girlfriends, Mums and Dads, Boyfriends and Husbands).
So have a vote in the poll midway down the page on the right for what you want to do. You can also suggest new ideas by selecting “other” and writing your idea in the field.

Honours Men playing against Mornington this Friday night!
Just a reminder for all those people planning to have a quiet one this Friday night, actually no… ALL PEOPLE…. come on down to the State Volleyball Centre this Friday night to support our Honours boys as they take on Mornington in their Round 4 match (postponed from last week).
Game starts at 7:30pm so be there and make some noise in the Stadium like they’ve never heard for Volleyball on a Friday night before!! which is probably never…
SEE YOU THERE!!!
ALSO A REMINDER TO ALL OTHERS, THIS MEANS THAT THERE WILL BE NO TRAINING ON FRIDAY NIGHT AT IVANHOE
Next Quiz Coming Soon
The next Quiz will be up very soon, so stay tuned!!!
This time it will be taking a visual form. How well do you know your Falcons players???
Here’s a tester…… “Who’s that Falcon?” (in this case who are those Falcons)

Arafura Wrap Up
Here we are back in cold old Melbourne, it really hit home last night at Luther.
The Arafura Games was a fantastic experience for both the girls and myself. Over 5,000 participants from all around the world, in particular the Oceania region across 27 different sports. It was also great to see all the Paralympic athletes in attendance.
The Australian Junior Women’s Team went through the tournament undefeated until the final, where we lost to Macau China in four sets, to say it was disappointing would be an understatement. If you want to check out the match reports have a look at our blog http://arafura92njw.wordpress.com/
From a Falcons perspective it was fabulous tour with Sophie, Monique and Jaimee-Lee all gaining valuable experience on and off the court. They learnt, as did I, how hard a 13 day tour can be especially when we are doing everything for ourselves; catering, transport, training, competition, etc
Thanks Bill

Team Australia
Best Wishes
All the Falcon’s Best Wishes are going out to Vic from the Mens team as he heads in to Hospital.
We hope eveything goes well and are wishing for a speedy recovery and we’re looking forward to seeing you back soon!
Girls Go Through to Finals Undefeated
The National Junior Womens team has reached the finals of the Arafura Games without losing a game. They have only lost 1 set as well, as far as i can tell.
Well done girls!!! Good luck for the finals today and tomorrow!

Monique, Jaimee-Lee & Sophie at Opening Ceremony
Hey everyone,
Hope the weather is treating you well. As for us, it is an average 33 degrees, with humidity at 82.6%.
Having a ball up here, everything going pretty much to plan. We are scheduled to play our first game today at 4, against the Australian Defence Force Organisation.
Good job Div 1 girls for smashing mornington. Sophie is pretty happy about that!
Will see you all soon.
GO FALCONS!
Jaimee-Lee, Sophie and Monique.

Mens Div 1 vs Latrobe Match Report
Clarification of New Net Touch Ruling
It has been an interesting first few weeks with the new rule changes and there has been mixed response to them, but i get the feeling that more people are happy with them as it lets the game run more without stopping it for any slight touch of the net.
A document on the New FIVB Rule Definitions can be found on the AVF website. Along with this video on Net Rule Modifications.
I think the Video is great to watch to get a better understanding of the new net touch rule.
This Weekend’s Mens Honours Game Postponed
At the request of the opposition, Mornington, the Falcons Mens Honours game scheduled for this Saturday has been postponed to Friday 22nd May at 7:30pm. It will be played on court 1 at the Victorian State Volleyball Centre (as usual).
This means that Mens training on Friday 22nd of May will not be running.
If you are able to make it, come down to support the boys!
Arafura Games Starting Soon
The girls from the Australian National Junior Team have started well in practice matches against the Australian Defence Force team. The first game for the team in the tournament is early Sunday morning against the Solomon Islands. They have 8 games through until Thursday 14th May and then playoffs on Friday with the Final being played on Saturday. All of the games are in Darwin.
The team is predominantly made up of Victorians including 3 Melbourne Falcons; Monique Stojanovic, Jamie-Lee Morrow and Sophie Paine, with Bill McHoul in the position of Assisstant Coach.
Follow their results and show them some support on the team blog at http://arafura92njw.wordpress.com
Results from Victorian State League Round 3
Round 3 saw the Mens Honours team continue to show some great form working together to get another win and put them on 2-1 so far for the season, while the Womens Honours team showed they will be one of the main teams to beat in the 2009 season, making it 3 from 3 so far and putting themselves on top of the table. Mens Div 1 struggled again with the absence of 4 players (including their captain, a starting pass hitter and starting opposite) and losing another starting pass hitter early in the game to injury, and are still yet to win a game. Once the full team is available they should be able to make a push back up the ladder. Womens Div 1 are sitting in the top four, with another win this week, while Div 2 Women had the difficult yet socialable task of playing each other. If only both teams could win….
